Technology and music are interconnected. From drums to turntables, people have always found ways to use technology to expand their ability to create things that they could not otherwise produce. Technology is an extension of the artist’s musical self, a manifestation of an abstract sonic texture. The relationship between instruments and modern digital devices is quite similar to that between the abacus and the calculator: both are technological devices that allow human beings to transcend the arbitrary limitations of biology, and sometimes they just provide simple convenience.
