Caroline Weaver: MEXI-CATS

MEXI-CATS started as an emergency fundraiser so I could get down to Mexico where my friend Jamie Bizness and I were having an art show. The backgrounds are obviously inspired by this; they are also intended to represent aspects of all contemporary societies and civilizations (hence the neon).

Cats are a personal symbol of negative domestic life. I tend to paint them after a break-up.

The beer cans are symbolic of vice. It's Budweiser simply because that's "The King Of Beers" and totally iconic. It's also just a good-looking can.

The theme here would be "traditional relationships as vice" a bit of the Freudian "be my super-ego drug" stuff.
