In her landmark performance, Cut Piece, Yoko Ono sat still on a stage while those in attendance cut away her clothing with a pair of scissors. Put Piece is in many ways the opposite of Cut Piece. Cut Piece takes away clothing in a detached, destructive process with strangers in a public institution. Put Piece happens in my home with my wife and a good friend affixing, rather than revealing, my nakedness. The slow process produces a paradoxically guarded intimacy, an armoured nakedness.
