A product of human interaction and culture, myths and oral traditions are marked with the qualities of transformation and change. Through changing perspectives and creative exaggerations, the original matter becomes enigmatic—obscured by memory and interpretation. Within the context of myths, the story-teller works freely with the authority of the ancient, and with the unlimited possibilities of their imagination. The effects are numerous, and create a layered spectacle to be deciphered. As such, the myth "remains impregnated throughout with this wonder: it is less a thing than a trace of a movement" (Barthes).
